Breast Cancer Awareness Month is officially over!  What did you do?  Did you wear pink? Did you walk a Race? Buy a product? Get a mammogram? Nothing?

So this year, what will YOUR answer be?

That year, the last time she actively participated in Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), she wore pink every day!  She was inspired by Star Jones who wore red every day during Heart Health Month. Barbra recounted the experience and shared her thoughts about why she did it and whether she made a difference.

Of course, we ALL know the answer to that. YES! Because no matter how she felt throughout her life in the cancer lane she always …

A moving message from Brendon Riley about Barbra, Blayre & Life in the Cancer Lane

As we approach the anniversary of Barbra’s transition to the next chapter in her story, Blayre and I continue to move forward with the love and support of our family and friends.  We couldn’t be more grateful for those who have surrounded us with their continued presence in our lives.  Though life has brought change for Blayre and me, certain things have not changed: our love for each other and for Barbra, our love of the Lord – who is the source of our strength, and our abiding passion to help others.

We’ve decided to celebrate, rather than memorialize, Barbra in the coming few weeks.  Much of that, Blayre and I will do privately.  However, we would love for you to join us as the Pinkwellchick Foundation, Inc. will celebrate Barbra’s memory during Breast Cancer Awareness Month by restaging Barbra’s play, Life In The Cancer Lane, in two shows on Saturday, October 18th at The Herberger Theater Center, 222 E. Monroe Phoenix, AZ 85004. We are thrilled that this year’s performance will feature Hollywood star of stage and screen, Valarie Pettiford.

Barbra was able to see her creation brought to life just weeks before her journey with us ended, and we are tremendously excited to present the play to the public again a year later.  All funds raised that evening will go to the 501(c)(3) organization that Barbra began, The Pinkwellchick Foundation.  This foundation focuses on promoting breast cancer awareness, prevention, and supporting survivors and families, as well as heart health among women.

Through the generosity of our sponsors and partners, as well as the determination of a small band of Barbra’s close friends, we have an opportunity to show the play in the beautiful Herberger Theater Center.  I’m honored and humbled by the grace demonstrated by our friends at the Herberger and look forward to sharing this special gift in a special venue.

BREAKING NEWS: Valarie Pettiford to STAR in Life in the Cancer Lane!

The Pinkwellchick Foundation, Inc. Board is excited and honored to announce that award-winning triple-threat Valarie Pettiford has joined the cast and will star in this year’s fundraiser production of “Life in the Cancer Lane” by the late Barbra Watson-Riley.

“I am beyond thrilled to be working with Valarie again,” said Carla Banks Waddles, who will be directing the play along with Crystal Houston.  Waddles worked with Pettiford as a writer on the UPN sitcom “Half & Half.”   “She brings so much talent and elegance to everything she does.  She dances, she sings, she’s a powerhouse. This audience is in for a real treat!”

The matinee and evening performances will take place at The Herberger Theater Center-Stage West on October 18, 2014 (2:00 pm and 7:30 pm). The Herberger Theater Center is a Diamond sponsor of the production and is joined by a host of corporate and individual sponsors, including our Platinum Sponsors: the Watson Family and Leslie M. Gray.

Life-in-the-Cancer-LaneWe are excited to announce that tickets are now ON SALE for “Life in the Cancer Lane”, a Pinkwellchick Foundation, Inc. Production, written by our beloved BWats! This staging is the Foundation’s premier fundraiser to support our sole mission and purpose to continue the tireless advocacy and life-changing philanthropic work to which Barbra dedicated her life. Our fantastic production team, Carla Banks Waddles and Crystal Houston, has assembled a stellar cast. And now we need you! 

We encourage you to buy your tickets NOW. Last year we sold out quickly and many people near and dear to Barbra were unable to secure tickets. Although we have a bigger space and two performances, we expect to sell out again quickly. We don’t want you to miss out.
