In August 2017, we partnered with the W. Montague Cobb/NMA Health Institute to stage LIFE in the CANCER LANE, by Barbra Watson-Riley, during the National Medical Association’s annual convention in Philadelphia. We raised over $30,000 to produce the play and to support cancer research to eradicate disparities in the black community as well as cancer patient and advocate education and support.

2017 BAG IT for the CAUSE-LA

For the third year, our National BAG IT® events were a great success thanks to our event Ambassadors, volunteers and healthcare partners. Volunteers assembled and delivered BARB’S BAG® of chemo & radiation care and comfort to four hundred breast cancer patients during events in four cities for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. We invite individuals, groups and organizations to participate this charitable fundraising opportunity.

Other Initiatives to Support Our Programming

#GivingTuesday

  • In support of #GivingTuesday, Facebook partnered with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to match up to $2 million in donations that are made on Facebook to eligible U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofits. PWCF participated in this fundraising initiative and raised $770 in donated and matched funds.

Triple Negative Breast Cancer Day

  • Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) Day, organized by the TNBC Foundation, Inc., is an annual global awareness and grassroots fundraising campaign to help eradicate triple negative breast cancer. Our PWCF founder, Barbra Watson-Riley, was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, a very aggressive form of breast cancer that is more likely to recur and more difficult to treat because there is no targeted treatment. It is also more likely to affect younger women and women of color. So, in addition to the work we do to support breast cancer patients and their caregivers through BARB’S BAG® and LIFE in the CANCER Lane productions, we also support organizations like TNBC Foundation, Inc., because of its tremendous commitment to support and fund breakthrough research to discover and develop promising new treatments for TNBC Patients.
