Spotlight: Meet some of our amazing BAG IT™ for the CAUSE Chemo Treatment Partners!

24 Sep

promobag_topview2Our inaugural BAG IT™ for the CAUSE Day of Service is just days away. We’ve raised $15,000 to underwrite the production and distribution of 300 BARB’S BAGs® to provide care & comfort to women living with cancer and in treatment. The support and enthusiasm for this service project has been both energizing and humbling. Our founder, Barbra Watson-Riley, would LOVE this day of service. Indeed she is absolutely the wind beneath the wings of this effort.

BAG IT™ for the CAUSE would not be possible without the active participation of treatment centers and organizations that service women living their lives “in the cancer lane“. So we are excited to share information with you about three of our treatment partners that have graciously and enthusiastically accepted our call to deliver BARB’S BAGs® to their constituents.

New Rochelle, NY

Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care’s (MECCC) BOLD Program

einstein-logoThe Bronx Oncology Living Daily (BOLD Living) Program, now under the newly formed Integrative Oncology Program, is a free, wellness and support program that was launched in 2008 to meet the particular needs of those affected by cancer in the Bronx. The program grew out of an ongoing psychosocial needs assessment of cancer patients in which the question was asked what services they would want to help them better cope and take charge of their health as they undergo this cancer journey. More than half of patients have asked for mind-body programs, physical fitness/nutrition workshops, creative arts programs, and health education classes with nearly one quarter requesting individual counseling and someone to accompany them to treatment or provide phone support.

In an effort to respond to these needs, the BOLD Wellness Workshop hosts over 10 free workshops per month at four different locations in the Bronx associated with the Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care. In any given month, patients and their loved ones can participate in yoga, crochet, scrapbooking, a drum circle, Reiki healing, meditation, Aikido, and a walking group. In addition, there is weekly counseling and support groups lead by mental health counseling interns, and peer counseling through our volunteer-based BOLD Buddy Program. Everything is free, available in English and Spanish, and accessible to anyone affected by cancer in the Bronx regardless of where they receive their medical care. The goal is to empower through education, nurture through support, and serve through understanding our community.

We need YOUR help to deliver Barb’s Bag chemo comfort bags to underserved breast cancer patients

14 Aug

shopping-bag-294545_640_generic

Barb’s Bag™ of Care & Comfort is an actual bag filled with essential items for chemotherapy patients to not only survive but thrive during their chemotherapy treatments.

Think of it as a chemo survival kit!

Our founder, Barbra Watson-Riley, received a “chemo bag” early in her “life in the cancer lane” from her dear friend, and former Pinkwellchick Foundation, Inc., board member Lori Hall-Armstrong. Barbra blogged regularly about how much she treasured that bag. It contained everything from an essential document organizer, to air sickness bags, aromatherapy, ginger candies, lotion, blanket, socks and much more.

Barb’s Bag™ of Care & Comfort is made of high-end material and includes a range of products that Barbra identified as essential when going through chemotherapy.  The bag also includes “Real Talk” information about what to expect during chemo and an exclusive access code to stream Life in the Cancer Lane (Barbra’s play, with Hollywood star of stage and screen Valarie Pettiford) from any device in the United States.

Sponsor. Donate. Volunteer.

There are three ways to get involved. Become a Sponsor, Patron or Donor to help PWCF to underwrite the cost of bag production and delivery or Volunteer to help assemble bags on the Day of Service.

Every dollar donated goes to produce and distribute Barb’s Bag™ for Bag It™ for the Cause Day of Service. Any undistributed bags will be distributed free of charge thereafter to female chemotherapy patients diagnosed with breast cancer. Note, in the future PWCF also plans to produce additional bags to offer via its  Bag It™ for the Holidays and the “Bag It,™ Give It” promotions.

We seek sponsors to help subsidize (or fully sponsor) the production and distribution of the bags. One hundred percent of sponsorship dollars is tax-deductible. Consult your tax professional for additional information. Each bag costs $50 to produce.
